Former Employees Give Back to Enhance Cancer Care
Even in retirement, Oncology Nurse Ann Garbecki’s commitment to patients and staff at the D’Amour Center for Cancer Care remains strong.
“If I’m not there in person to help patients, I still want to help somehow,” Ann says.
Ann realized that she wanted to give back to say thanks for a wonderful career. Oncology was not just where she worked, it was where she was meant to be.
“Going to work was never work,” Ann shared. “I was part of an incredible team, and it was about being there for people when they needed you most. I always let patients know I am going to take excellent care of you. I am here for you.”
Brian also has ties to Baystate Health, where, as Director of Facilities, he played a key role in the planning and design of the D’Amour Center for Cancer Care. Today, he continues to advance healthcare design and planning across the country.
To honor their work at the D’Amour Center, Ann and Brian decided to make a meaningful gift through Baystate Health Foundation from their donor advised fund for the purchase of essential patient monitoring devices that track vital signs during cancer treatment.
Dr. John McCann, longtime hematologist and oncologist for the Baystate Regional Cancer Program, notes: “Having Ann and Brian support the very space where Ann once worked makes this especially special. They both know firsthand the experience our patients and staff have, and their generosity truly makes a difference in day-to-day care.”
