“A little bit goes a long way.”
For Bill Dube, those words are not just a belief. They are core values. They are the foundation of a gift in his will to Baystate Children’s Hospital, a legacy shaped by love, gratitude, and family.
Bill and his late wife, Elaine, shared 45 years of marriage before Elaine passed away in 2016. Together, they built a life centered on raising a good family, which Bill says was the most important thing they did.
In 2001, that strong sense of family was tested when their grandson was born critically ill and spent over a month in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Baystate Children’s Hospital. So small that his father could fit a wedding ring around his arm, their grandson was cared for with expertise and compassion that left a lasting impression on Bill and Elaine.
In deep gratitude, they made a promise to support and give back to the hospital that helped give their grandson a future.
Today, Bill carries forward the promise he and Elaine made through twenty-four years of gifts and a planned gift in his will to Baystate Children’s Hospital. Made in memory of his beloved wife, these gifts reflect their shared values and help ensure that future families receive the same compassionate care they once depended on.
His grandson, once so fragile, is now over six feet tall, hardworking, and thriving. He and his brother affectionately call Bill, their grandfather, “Pépère” and regularly visit with him.
Bill finds fulfillment in staying close to his family and giving back to others—whether through volunteer work, helping a neighbor, or making charitable gifts. He encourages others to get started on their estate planning. “Just do it,” he says. “There’s no reason to wait.” He also encourages others to consider joining him in leaving a legacy gift to support Baystate Health Foundation, emphasizing that a gift, no matter the size, can make a meaningful and lasting impact.
Through his bequest, Bill honors the love of his life and the values he and Elaine shared. He leaves a legacy that will continue to give far into the future. Thank you, Bill!
