boneyMeet Charlotte Boney, MD, MS, Pediatrician-in-Chief, Baystate Children’s Hospital; Chair of Pediatrics, UMass Chan Medical School – Baystate, who shares the critical need for community support for young patients.

At Baystate Children’s Hospital (BCH), we are committed to creating a better world for children by reducing healthcare disparities, treating illness, and supporting wellness.

BCH is the only accredited, full-service hospital delivering advanced specialized care to infants, children, and adolescents in western Massachusetts. As a “hospital-within-a-hospital” at Baystate Medical Center, BCH is equipped with 107 inpatient beds, including 55 beds in the Davis Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. BCH is also a Children’s Miracle Network hospital.

We are extremely grateful to the individuals, families, corporations, and foundations that have generously helped upgrade equipment and facilities designed especially for the comfort and care of young patients. Donations were critical in creating our new Pediatric Procedure Unit, a light-filled, child-friendly space where kids can receive special procedures in the comfort of an outpatient unit, rather than in the operating rooms or pediatric intensive care unit.

Donations also helped us build the Sadowsky Center for Children offering specialized care for young patients coping with cancer or blood disorders, and the Baystate Children’s Specialty Center at 50 Wason Avenue, which brings together more than 10 pediatric subspecialties for outpatient care. This facility makes it easier to coordinate care for children with chronic or complex health conditions in a kid-friendly environment.

We are also grateful for support in our work to educate and train the next generation of pediatricians through our accredited pediatrics and medicine-pediatrics residency programs. Philanthropic investments and legacy gifts help fuel our ability to contribute new knowledge and clinical insights to the field of pediatrics to better serve our young patients.

We are most excited about expanding our Child Life and Healing Arts program later this year with the arrival of our own facility dog! Facility dogs are specially bred and trained to provide comfort and support for patients, encourage movement, and contribute to bereavement and staff support.

Like all other children’s hospitals, BCH relies on the generosity of the community to help us deliver state-of-the-art-care in child-friendly facilities. We are so grateful for your support.
