A charitable remainder trust (CRT) pays you and/or other designated recipients an income for life or for a specified number of years. After that time, the balance of the trust is applied to the purpose you have designated at Baystate Health Foundation and/or other charities.

To create a charitable remainder trust, you transfer cash or appreciated assets such as stock or real estate to a charitable trust. You can establish a CRT during your life or through your estate.

Benefits include:

  • Annual income for you and/or a loved one.
  • Immediate tax deduction and other tax benefits.
  • If you gift appreciated assets or property which you sell within the trust, you may eliminate up-front capital gains tax.
  • The opportunity to create a lasting legacy to honor a loved one.
  • The joy of creating a future gift for one or more charities, such as Baystate Health Foundation.
